  • University of Idaho Extension is boosting support for northern food banks after federal assistance cuts by growing potatoes and partnering with cattle producers — officials at the Sandpoint Organic Agricultural Center planted 600 pounds of seed this season and plan to add winter squash, cabbage, and onions next year — as food insecurity rises in the region.  Pullman Radio

  • On Tuesday afternoon, Moscow police confirmed five smash and grab car burglaries—occurring between 5:00 and 6:30—at the University of Idaho Arboretum and Joseph Street Ballfields, with items like purses and wallets stolen and police asking anyone with information to come forward.  Dailyfly

  • Today, a WalletHub report ranked Idaho as the second best state to live because of low taxes, affordable housing and strong law enforcement staffing—while Washington ranked 36th due to high living costs and lower safety. The study measured all 50 states with 51 indicators across five areas including affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life and safety.  Dailyfly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Transportation Department is assessing potential delays in North Idaho projects amid an ongoing operator strike in eastern Washington—projects at risk include the State Highway 53 Pleasant View Interchange and Interstate 90 bridges. Project teams are working with contractors to review schedules and find ways to lessen the delays.  Dailyfly
  • The Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety and law enforcement agencies will start the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign from August 15 to September 1 to cut down on impaired driving before Labor Day. The campaign will set up roadside checkpoints to help stop drunk driving—an effort meant to save lives on busy roads.  Dailyfly
  • Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador launched Operation Robocall Roundup — a nationwide effort to stop illegal robocalls by sending warning letters to 37 voice service providers and informing 99 downstream carriers about FCC rule violations. The crackdown, part of a bipartisan coalition of 51 attorneys general and the Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force, warns companies to follow federal rules immediately.  Dailyfly
