CULTURE NEWS

  • Today at 5:30 p.m., the University of Idaho and Moscow Arts Commission host the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Poster Reveal Reception at the Third Street Gallery inside Moscow City Hall—featuring student ensembles, catering by Goose House Bakery and original poster art by alumnus Cody Muir that shows the Palouse's rolling hills. The free event will reveal the lineup of world-class musicians for the 2026 festival.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lauren McCluskey Foundation will host its annual Race for Campus Safety this Saturday, October 4, on the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine campus in Pullman and plans family-friendly activities and multiple race options for kids and adults—free self-defense classes will be offered in Pullman and Moscow on October 3 and 4 to honor Lauren McCluskey and support campus safety efforts. More than 800 participants are expected to join as the event raises awareness of relationship violence and stalking on campuses.  Dailyfly
  • University of Idaho associate professor Shiyi Chen—who teaches in the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences—has been awarded a five-year, $1.4 million National Science Foundation grant to study how young children develop metacognition and improve science learning. His research will test classroom feedback, involve preschool and kindergarten students, and create a professional development program for teachers.  Dailyfly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho legislators met on Monday at the Capitol as a task force reviewed changes to Medicaid expansion to cut costs and improve efficiency—discussing work requirements, more frequent eligibility checks, and a shift for some participants to private insurance; over 87,000 Idahoans have been enrolled since the program started in 2020, and officials noted that modifications might lower federal matching funds if program rules change.  Dailyfly

  • At Laurel Golf Club on Monday, freshman Andrea Artusini made a strong collegiate debut for No. 19 LC State Men’s Golf by posting rounds of 67 and 71 with 5 and 4 birdies respectively—finishing 6-under with an eagle to close his day three strokes off the lead. His team scored a 9-under total to hold second place behind host Rocky Mountain, with coach Zach Anderson emphasizing high standards for tomorrow’s round.  Big Country News
