COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Moscow Human Rights Commission and the Latah County Human Rights Task Force are hosting the first-ever Better Together Dinner for University of Idaho students on Monday, September 29 from 6pm to 8pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Institute of Religion near campus. The free, first-come-first-served event will serve a catered meal from Happy Hog Meatery with community desserts and provide accessible parking (on S. Deakin and Railroad Streets).  Big Country News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The McConnell Mansion hosts an evening—today at 7:00 p.m.—of free history and music that features restored melodeons; musician John Elwood will explain his repairs while Linda Edwards recounts the history of the instruments' original owners and live performances by Deborah Collins and John let the audience hear the authentic sound.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Idaho dropped to 183rd and Washington State University fell to 192nd in U.S. News and World Report’s ranking with Idaho down four spots and WSU down three spots from last year—local education shows a slight decline.  Pullman Radio
  • Save Our Schools Idaho is hosting a town hall discussion today at 6:30 p.m. at the 1912 Center in Moscow to talk about Idaho’s $50 million private school tuition funding program. The event—moderated by Alexis Morgan of the Idaho PTA and featuring panelists such as Moscow Middle School teacher Cyndi Faircloth, Moscow Charter School Board Chair Leslie Baker and former Fruitland School District Superintendent Teresa Fabricius—will address proposals to expand the program to $339 million annually over the next decade.  Pullman Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On September 19, the Bureau of Land Management’s Cottonwood Field Office teamed with Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy & Clearwater Management Council to clean a five-mile stretch of the Clearwater River between Cherry Lane and Gibbs Eddy in north-central Idaho. Twenty-four cadets and 45 volunteers worked over 400 hours while local sponsors provided a barbecue lunch & a $400 donation was given to the academy.  Dailyfly
