- ➤ Federal officials say the White Pine Fire still burns on about 1,000 acres—10% contained—in North Latah County near the Giant White Pine Campground. Over 400 firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service spent nearly nine million dollars, with Monday’s work costing one and a half million dollars, and they expect containment to improve soon after a half-inch of rain.
