COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Moscow is accepting nominations for the 2025 Ismat Ara and Abdul Mannan Sheikh Community Unity Award with submissions due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3. Nominees must submit a one-page explanation to the Moscow Human Rights Commission, and the award recipient will be announced in November—nominations are open to citizens who contribute to community unity and human rights.  Big Country News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Latah County Sheriff’s Office issued a be ready to evacuate notice for residents near a 13-acre timber fire at the Giant White Pine Campground north of Harvard—deputies evacuated the campground Monday.  Pullman Radio

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Port of Lewiston broke ground on a 92-mile broadband backbone that will bring high-speed internet from Moscow to Lewiston — the project will later extend fiber from Lewiston to Grangeville and is set to finish in spring. Funding comes from federal and regional grants and Port dollars.  Big Country News
  • AAA reports that Idaho gas prices remain steady at $3.47 per gallon—two cents lower than last week and 11 cents lower than this time last year—as refineries meet heightened demand over Labor Day weekend while urging motorists to adopt fuel-saving practices.  Dailyfly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Idaho expects a record high enrollment this fall after President Scott Green announced on Tuesday that the student body grew 13% from nearly 12,300 last fall—defying the national trend. Officials said the official enrollment count will be taken mid-October.  Dailyfly
