COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Inland North Waste and the United Way of the Palouse are hosting the second annual Reels for Meals fundraiser today at 7:00 p.m. at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in Moscow+ they will screen the film Mean Girls from 2004 to help fight food insecurity in the Palouse.  Pullman Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the University of Idaho hosts Screen on the Green on Theophilus Tower Lawn where Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is shown—seating begins at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starts around 8:30 p.m. as the season wraps up.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, a new online tool from University of Idaho Extension helps local farmers track crop development and pest stages based on temperature instead of using a fixed calendar. Canyon County Extension educator Jemila Chellappa said the Growing Degree Day Calculator—designed to reduce pesticide use and save money—will guide when to apply pesticides, irrigate and fertilize.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Five more candidates—Evan Holmes, R. Paul Fender, Scott Sumner, Stephen Bonnar and John Slagboom—filed for three Moscow City Council seats this fall, joining Sage McCetich while current office holders include Hailey Lewis, Julia Parker running for mayor and Gina Taruscio with Mayor Art Bettge not seeking re-election. In Latah County, challenged races for two Potlatch City Council seats have seen Martin Anderson, Sal Jasso and Jody Long file and filings will remain open until Friday at 5:00 at the county auditor’s office.  Pullman Radio
  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture opened a public comment period on a proposal to rescind the 2001 Roadless Rule that limits road construction and timber harvest on 60 million acres of national forest land, although rules for Idaho remain unchanged. Public comments will stay open until September 19 — an environmental impact statement will review the proposal's effects on forest management and local communities.  Dailyfly
