CULTURE NEWS

  • Historian Dr. Earl Bennett will be awarded the Esto Perpetua Award from the Idaho State Historical Society for his 16 years of service and expertise on Idaho's mining history – he will join 11 other recipients at the ceremony on June 5 at the Idaho State Museum.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Navtaj Singh, a four-time regional champion from Pullman and an 8th grader at Lincoln Middle School, will make his final appearance at the National Spelling Bee next week in Washington D.C.—he has qualified every year since 5th grade and his best finish was tied for 12th as a 6th grader.  Dailyfly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers traveling between Moscow and Lewiston on U.S. Highway 95 will face intermittent daytime closures near Thorn Creek Bridge next week as ITD installs new bridge girders—which will fully close the bridge from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 28 and 29 with flaggers directing alternating traffic flow.  Dailyfly
  • Idaho State Police have increased patrols statewide this Memorial Day weekend to warn drivers about speeding, impaired driving, and distractions — efforts aimed at reducing fatal crashes as summer driving begins.  Pullman Radio
  • Governor Brad Little declared that May 25 to 31 will be Safe Driver Week to raise awareness of risky road habits ahead of the period (100 Deadliest Days) when fatal crashes typically rise. AAA Idaho will lead daily social media campaigns to warn drivers against distractions, impaired, drowsy and aggressive driving (and remind everyone to buckle up).  Dailyfly
