COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The monthly Garfield community lunch is happening today at noon at the American Legion Hall in Garfield—serving a three-dollar meal with roast pork and baked potato while everyone is welcome.  Pullman Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • A Pullman farmer was not charged with a crime after his tractor hit a pipeline in November 2023, which cut off natural gas for about 37,000 customers and led state investigators and the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office to rule out criminal intent.  Dailyfly

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game warned shed hunters not to disturb wintering deer and elk by starting antler searches too early and said hunters must follow land rules and license requirements for nonresidents—this advice comes even though snow has melted and winter is still affecting the animals. The agency said shed hunters should use optics from a safe distance and wait until antlers drop naturally later in the season.  Dailyfly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The candidate filing period for several small taxing districts in Latah County will end Friday at the Latah County Auditor’s Office in Moscow—candidates are needed for positions on the Library District Board, Highway Districts, and water and sewer districts in Harvard, Princeton, Southeast Moscow and Viola. Open positions include the water and sewer boards in Harvard, Princeton and Southeast Moscow along with the library board, and the races will be decided in the May election.  Pullman Radio
  • Drivers in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington must remove studded tires to avoid fines, with Oregon and Washington requiring removal by March 31 and Idaho allowing them until April 30. Officials advise switching to regular tires sooner if winter conditions end (to prevent road damage).  Dailyfly
